Thoughts on the Eve of Trump's Inauguration (editorial)

All is calm. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's what the world is doing, far beyond the MAGA sphere, the base; beyond that sea of blood-red baseball caps who take him seriously, not literally, that base who find him funny rather than terrifying (and he is, often, very funny), who take his concern for their wellbeing at face-value because at least he -- unlike the Dems -- pretends to have concern for their wellbeing. Beyond the MAGA wall (not the wall between the US and Mexico yet to be built but which lives heartily in the imagination, its suggestion a victory in itself), the world waits with bated breath to see what the monster will do.
