Torn Pages Inferno was an easy book to write by comparison to Oedipus, which was an absolute bitch. This may still read like a dark, foreboding book, with tiny poets being eaten alive and our main character transforming into a tree monster. That's because I was going through some dissatisfactions of my own at the time of writing, being unhappy with certain aspects of my job and dreading the approaching Christmas season.
While I wrote Inferno, I did get to see Joni Mitchell in Los Angeles. I can't pretend her beautiful, escapist writing had any real relevance to Inferno, although it was a nice, pleasant experience in what was otherwise a long and gruelling book to write.
I'd also like to apologise to Jane Austen fans for the treatment of the Jane character. I can understand why they might be upset by that.
